Richard J. Wancour

Richard John Wancour, a beloved resident of Sterling Heights, Michigan, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, at the age of 74, in Troy, Michigan. He was born on February 20, 1949, in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, to the late Richard Joseph and Julia Marie (née Bierlien) Wancour. Richard was a dedicated scholar who graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Detroit in 1971. Years later, he continued his academic pursuits and achieved a Master's Degree in Accounting. He devoted over 25 years of his professional life to Key International as an Accountant. After his retirement, he embraced a new chapter in his life and found joy working at Lowe's, where many customers affectionately referred to him as the "Tool Man." Beyond his professional life, Richard had a passion for collecting stamps and coins, nurturing his garden, hunting, and eagerly watching and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. However, his greatest source of happiness came from spending cherished moments with his family, a value that remained at the core of his being. Richard was a devoted member of the St. Lawrence Knight of Columbus Council #2950 and a former member and Grand Knight with Pope John Paul I Council #6865. On October 15, 1971, he married the love of his life, Veronica Ann (née Lawson), at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Utica, Michigan. They celebrated 52 years of unwavering love and partnership. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Veronica Ann Wancour, and their children: Jessica (Greg) Sheldon, Jacquelyn (Richard) Schroeder, Richard F. (Laura) Wancour, and Benjamin (Danelle) Wancour. He leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren who held a special place in his heart.. He was the dear brother of Carolyn (the late William) Agrusa, Sandra (Jody) Clement, Gary (Joan) Wancour, and MaryAnn (Joseph) Hough. Richard John Wancour's legacy is one of dedication, love, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will forever live on in their hearts. Family and friends will be gathering for a visitation and funeral service on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks E. of Van Dyke) Utica from 10am until time of service 12 pm (Noon).
