Obituary for Robert William "Bill" Burt It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert William "Bill" Burt, who left us on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Corewell Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. Born on December 7, 1941, in Macon, Georgia, Bill was the beloved son of the late Claude "Bud" and Margaret Burt. Bill found his truest purpose and deepest happiness in his marriage to his devoted wife, Barbara. He was a steadfast partner, a loving confidant, and her unwavering champion throughout their 60 years together. His dedication to her well-being, happiness, and comfort was evident in every thoughtful gesture and constant attention to her needs, leaving an indelible mark on her heart and their family. Bill's life was marked by his vibrant spirit, his dedication to his family, and his passion for the water. He was a proud alumnus of Catholic Central High School and the University of Detroit. Professionally, Bill enjoyed a successful career as a manufacturers' representative in the boating industry, a field that perfectly aligned with his love for the open water. Outside of work, Bill was an avid sailor, often spending weekends out on the water. He was a competitive force, racing sailboats out of the Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit, where he was a well-known and respected figure. Bill sailed a total of 42 Port Huron to Mackinac races and was honored to join the Society of the Old Goat after his 25th race. His commitment to his community was evident through his extensive volunteer work; Bill was a Cub Scout Master for an impressive 20 + years and an active member of the Dad's Club, touching countless lives with his guidance and enthusiasm. Bill's infectious personality shone brightly in every interaction. He was known for being playful and chronically sarcastic, always ready to strike up a conversation with anyone, whether they liked it or not. He found immense joy in simply being around his family, creating cherished memories that will be held dear. Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara, and his five loving sons, Steve (Malissa), Jeff, Scott, Jamie, and Jason (Kim). He was a proud grandfather to Aliana (Nathan), Ethan, Maddox, Sebastian, and Weston. He also leaves behind his sister, Laurie, and was preceded in death by his brother, John. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Scripture Service and Sharing of Memories at 7:00 pm at Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (4 blks. E. of Woodward), Royal Oak, 48067. Friends and family will gather on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 9:30 am until time of Memorial Mass at 10:00 am at Christ, Our Light!
