Romulo Laranang

Romulo Gabriel "Romy" Laranang, age 86, of Southfield, passed away on July 16, 2024. He was born in Ilocos Sur, Philippines on September 5, 1937 to Juan and Tomasa Laranang. Romy grew up in the Philippines and attended FEATI University in Manila, where he earned his Associates Degree in Business. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Nelaida. Together they emigrated to the United States in 1973, seeking new opportunities and a better future for their family. Romy and Nelaida settled in the Detroit area, and over the years Romy built a career as a salesman in the wholesale floral industry. However, his greatest pride and joy came from his role as a hands-on father and grandfather, and as a devoted husband. Romy's family was the center of his world. Faith was also central to Romy's life. He was an active member of his church community and the BLD Community, where he found strength and solace. He also loved to sing, often bringing joy to gatherings with his passion for karaoke. His rendition of his favorite songs will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of hearing him sing. And every fall, one could count on Romy to be a loyal Michigan Football fan who enjoyed cheering on the Wolverines to victory. Above all else, Romy was a cherished husband, father, and grandfather whose love and dedication to his family knew no bounds. He will be dearly missed. Romy will be remembered as the beloved husband of Nelaida (née Janeo). Loving father of Ronelle (Brad) Frankel, Raymond Laranang, and niece Johanna Mastry. Proud grandfather of Stella, Noah, Oliver, and Calista. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends, and members of his and Nelaida's beloved BLD Community. A visitation for Romy will take place on Friday, July 19, from 4 - 7 p.m. (Scripture Service at 6 p.m.) at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 17, at 10 a.m.(visitation 9:30 a.m.) at Church of Transfiguration, 25225 Code Rd, Southfield, MI 48033.
