Rose Mary "Bunny" Bailey

Rose Mary "Bunny" Bailey (nee Scurlock), age 87, resident of Shelby Township, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Bunny was born on March 14, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Lewis Scurlock Jr. and Annette "Ann" (nee McCaffrey). After high school, she attended nursing school and then became a member of the Army Nurse Corp as a registered nurse. She served at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas before going overseas to Japan. There, she met the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Bailey, a Naval fighter pilot. They were married in Chicago in 1958. She and Chuck raised seven children. After deciding to return to the workforce, she became the school nurse for the Utica Community School system. While working full time, she continued her education by going to school in the evening, earning her undergraduate degree from University of Detroit and her Masters degree from Central Michigan University. She was a parishioner at St. Kieran’s Catholic Church since 1965, where she also served for a time as a lay minister. Her strong faith helped her through many challenges she faced in life. Her loves included playing golf, attending to her backyard flower gardens, world travel, and most importantly spending time with her family and friends. She had a deep appreciation for our country and our military. Also extremely important to Bunny were her closest lifelong friends from the “Birthday Club”. Beloved wife of Charles Bailey of 62 years. Loving mother of Kevin Bailey, Dan (Linda) Bailey, Pat (Denise) Bailey, Mike (Kevin Olah) Bailey, Chris (Jennifer) Bailey, Anne (Randy Baker) Marberger and Keith Bailey. Proud grandmother of Caitlin Bailey, Karl Marberger, Chas Bailey, Eric Marberger, Hannah Bailey, Connor Bailey, Katrina Marberger, Maggie Bailey, Grace Bailey, Laine Bailey, and Elena Bailey. Dear sister of Joan (the late Bill) Hitzler, Pat (the late Walt) Goepel and the late Lewis "Bud" (Jeannie) Scurlock. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation at the Wm Sullivan and Son Funeral Home 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks E. of Van Dyke) Utica, Thursday, October 29 from 2-8 pm with a gathering of memories from 7-8 pm. Instate Friday, October 30 9:30 am at St. Kieran Catholic Church 53600 Mound Road (Btwn 24-25 Mile) Shelby Township until time of mass at 10 am.
