Roy F. Shields

Roy F. Shields, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of June 1, 2026. Born on October 13, 1942, Roy lived a life centered around his faith, family, friendships, and hard work. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn for 63 wonderful years, their long marriage a testament to their cherished love and dedication for one another. Loving father of Beverly (Dino) Cianferra, Deanna (Richard) Rogowski, and Ryan (Elizabeth) Shields. Treasured grandfather of Rachel (Jacob), Melissa (Kevin), Allison (Matt), Emily (Ben), Julia (Jack), RJ (Kaitlyn), Joseph, and Owen. Adored great-grandfather of Russell, Christian, Vinny, Violet, Sophia, and a new great-grandson expected to join the family soon. Roy was beloved by his many siblings; Gail (the late Thurland) Johnston, June Tedrow, Kathy Blasky, Greg (Debbie) Shields, and Charles (Linda) Shields. A cherished brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. A man known by many for his dedication and relentless work ethic, Roy spent 43 years and 3 days at Acco Industries, where he built himself a career full of accomplishments that he was immensely proud of. Throughout his time at Acco, he had a profound impact on those that he worked alongside every single day. Roy's truest joys in life were found in spending time with his family and friends. Countless summers were spent in Northern Michigan at his cottage on Lake Ogemaw, that he had built as a place to spend time away from the busyness of life with his children and grandchildren. The cottage helped to form lifelong memories, whether that was out driving the boat with a grandchild on his knee or around a picnic table playing cards with those he loved. Away from his cottage, he could be found rooting on his Detroit Tigers, working in his basement on his latest project, or spending afternoons in a garage with his friends as a part of their 'Fireball Club' meetings. Roy Boy, as he was known by his family, put those he loved in his life first. He spent countless hours hand-building Christmas churches that are still displayed in the houses of his family today, a testament to the love and care he poured into everything that he did for those in his life. God's kindness and love shined through Roy as he made an everlasting impact on every life that he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his unwavering love, generous spirit, and the memories that will live on in those fortunate enough to know him. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 4571 John R Road, Troy, Michigan 48085, on Friday, June 5, 2026. Roy will lie in state beginning at 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m.
