Sally Jung Lim

Sally Jung Lim, age 92, of Royal Oak, passed away January 12, 2015 at her home. She was born August 11, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Gong Jung and Mabel Yow Hing Jung. She was the beloved wife of the late Byron d. August 16, 2002; the couple married May 12, 1946 in Philadelphia; loving mother of Lynn Lim, Larry Lim and Sherill Bryan Hacker. Proud grandmother of Sean and Matthew Huie. Dear sister of Anna Chin, Mae SooHoo and the late Albert, William, Edward, David, Frank and Florence Jung and Nancy Louie. Memorial visitation Thursday 2-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Rd. 4 blocks E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Memorial service Friday 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Sally's talents and hobbies included a lifetime of sewing, crocheting, gardening and cooking. Sally excelled at cooking Chinese dinners for her family. She always maintained a beautiful garden with flowers and purple irises as well as many plants throughout her home. Sally attended the Chinese Community Church for many years, where she served on the board as well as a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed bowling every Sunday after service in the church league. Sally loved listening to her favorite albums such as Tony Bennett, Jim Nabors, Andy Williams and Barbara Streisand. She loved to dance and was on the dance floor with her husband Byron at every wedding. Later in life, Sally worked as a hostess at both Peking House and then Empress Gardens. She would often tell stories about the customers who complained about the number of wontons in their soup. She finally retired at age 76. Sally loved to play card games. She and her husband Byron frequently played poker with other couples. She taught her grandsons her favorite games and looked forward to beating them in a very competitive game of UNO. She was very disappointed when caught with one card without declaring "UNO". Sally enjoyed traveling. She would visit her sister in California every September and stay for a month driving up and down the coast visiting nieces and nephews and winning money playing slots in the casinos. Sally loved the tropical breezes of Hawaii. She called it "paradise" and was able to visit the islands seven times with her daughter and son-in-law. She especially savored a strong virgin pina colada by the pool. Sally's family will be devoted to carrying on Sally's love of games, sense of humor, wit and wisdom, and loyalty to her family.
