Sherry Lee West Flinders

Sherry Lee West Flinders, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife and friend, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, in the comfort of her home in Troy, Michigan, surrounded by family. She was born Sherry Lee Hancock in Detroit, Michigan on February 17, 1943. Sherry is predeceased by her parents George David (Ruth) Hancock, her first husband Gerald West, her second husband Clarence Flinders, her brother Craig (Linda) Hancock, her grandson Maxx Castillo, and her great grandson Casper West. Sherry is survived by her children Scott West, Shawn (Cheri) West, Leah West Castillo, Kevin (Toni) West, Jeremy West, Bradley Flinders, Chad Flinders, sister Laurie McDougall, and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Her career included, studying art at Wayne State University, Hudson's Detroit, Stay at Home Mother, Royal Oak City Clerk’s Office, Royal Oak Police Records, until retiring as a Police Service Aide (911 dispatcher) from Royal Oak Police Department. Then continuing part-time at Hamilton Funeral Home in Birmingham, Michigan. Sherry's life is a testament to compassion and the service of others. She handled everything with love and grace. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held many callings within the church, most notably, Relief Society President. She was a great mother and friend. She would go out of her way to help you. She enjoyed traveling, played piano, played drums, conducted music, sang in the choir, quilting, sewing, crafting, gardening, flowers, caregiving, den mother, sign language, baking, was a tap dancer, loved politics, making homemade gifts, and especially loved spending time with family. She made Christmas magical. We know she was embraced with open arms through the gates of heaven. We've always known there is a higher place in heaven for her. She will be eternally missed, she was such a loving soul. Visitation for Sherry will be held on Saturday, May 30, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service, 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2784 E. Square Lake Road in Troy. Interment will follow at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak. Donations can be made in Sherry's honor to a charity of your choice. The password for the Zoom livestream service is: 055778.
