Sylvia J. Camilleri

Sylvia J. Camilleri (nee' Vella) passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2023, in Utica, Michigan, surrounded by her devoted family. A beloved resident of Shelby Township and previously of Dearborn Heights and Detroit, Sylvia touched the lives of many with her warmth and kindness. Born on July 10, 1934, in Gozo, Malta, Sylvia was the cherished daughter of the late Antonio and Mary Jane (nee' DeBono) Vella. Her adventurous spirit led her to the United States as a teenager, where she embraced a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories. On September 11, 1954, Sylvia married the love of her life, Peter, beginning a journey of 43 beautiful years together until his passing in 1997. Together, they raised their loving family on the Southwest side of Detroit, creating a home filled with laughter, love, and enduring values. Sylvia's devotion to her family was unmatched. She adored her children: Joseph (Cynthia) Camilleri, Dennis Camilleri, Diana (Duraid) Yousif, and her late son John G. Camilleri. Her love extended to her grandchildren, Stephanie (Jaryd) Stoddard, Lauren (Maverick) Toma, Brandon (Samantha) Yousif, and Devon Yousif, whom she cherished dearly. She found immense joy in her role as a great-grandmother to Evalie and Nina. Known for her nurturing nature, Sylvia found solace and passion in knitting, tending her garden, and relishing the camaraderie of her senior group's gatherings and traveling, where they explored new places and experiences with boundless enthusiasm. Sylvia's life was a testament to love, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to family. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished moments. In addition to her beloved husband, Peter, Sylvia is reunited in eternal peace with her late sister, Maria Vella. Family and friends will gathering for a visitation starting at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at St. Anastasia Catholic Church 4571 John R. Road (Between Long Lake and Wattles Road) Troy, until the time of her funeral mass at 1pm. Interment St. Hedwig Cemetery Dearborn Heights,Michigan.
