Terry L. Measel

Terry L. Measel, age 86, of Sterling Heights, MI passed away on April 21, 2025. Born in Mt. Clemens, MI on June 22, 1938 to Elmer and Edna (nee Weier) Measel. He was baptized into faith on July 11, 1938 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Utica, MI. A lifelong resident of Utica, he graduated from Utica High School and attended Lawrence Institute of Technology earning his architectural degree. He served in the US Army Corp of Engineers at Ft. Belvoir, VA; retired after 30 years from Chrysler Corporation, and opened his own architectural office. In 1988 he was the Architect for a major expansion and renovation at Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Utica – his lifelong church. In addition to church design, outside of work, he built a custom Austin Healy, enjoyed golf and travel and served the Lord in many leadership positions at his home church. He met his wife of 61 years, Janet Cunningham at a Walther League youth group event and they married on June 15, 1963 in Essexville, MI. Terry will be remembered as the beloved husband of Janet, loving father of Rev. Martin (Jill) Measel, Marci Rosenberger, and Mindy (Jeff) Pioch. Proud grandfather of Andrew Measel, Elliot Measel, Isaac Measel, Karissa Measel, Jaden Rosenberger, Rebekah Pioch, Kathryn Pioch, and Owen Pioch. He was pre-deceased by his sister Karen and brother-in-law Norm Dettloff. A visitation will be held at the Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road, Utica, MI on Sunday, April 27 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 45160 Van Dyke, Utica, MI on Monday, April 28 where he will lie in state at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Military honors will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Terry can be made to Trinity Lutheran Foundation of Utica, or Christ Lutheran Church in Stevensville, MI Please share a memory with the Measel family at www.SullivanFuneralDirectors.com Terry's funeral service will be livedstreamed.
