Tom Hopp

Tom Hopp, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather, passed away peacefully at his residence in Shelby Township, Michigan, on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the age of 83. Tom was born on November 22, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, to his late parents, William and Genevieve Hopp (nee' Gerwatowski). He spent his formative years in Detroit, where he cultivated a love for creativity and the arts. He pursued his passion and graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the College of Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. He continued his academic journey, earning a Masters's degree from Central Michigan University, solidifying his commitment to excellence in his field. For an impressive 28 1/2 years, Tom dedicated himself to the students of the L'Anse Creuse School District, serving as a remarkable Commercial Art Teacher at Frederick V. Pankow Center until his well-earned retirement in 2001. Tom's commitment to his students went beyond the classroom, inspiring many young minds to pursue their own artistic passions. Outside of his professional life, Tom embraced various hobbies and interests. He was an avid hockey fan, with a special place in his heart for the Detroit Red Wings, cheering them on through their victories and defeats. His adventurous spirit led him to enjoy hunting and fishing, as well as traveling to explore the wonders of the world. However, Tom's most treasured moments were spent surrounded by family. He was a loving husband of 53 years to his devoted wife, Linda (nee' Wilcox) Hopp, and a caring father to his two children, Brad (Lisa) Hopp and Kevin (Melinda) Hopp. His three grandchildren, JC, Jade, and Madison, were a source of immense joy and pride. Tom's passions extended to community involvement, where he was an active member of the Oakland County Sportsman Club and various Corvette Clubs, indulging his love for these iconic cars. He cherished his faith deeply and, as an adult, contributed his melodious voice to the church choir for an incredible 12 years, showcasing his unwavering devotion to his Catholic beliefs. The memory of Tom Hopp will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and a zest for life that inspired and enriched the lives of those around him. Tom's family and friends will be gathering for a visitation at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks E. of Van Dyke) Utica on Sunday, August 6 from 2-8pm. A gathering and funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 7 at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church 48115 Schoenherr Road (btwn 21-22 Mile) Shelby Township from 9:30am until time of mass 10am.
