William Henry Barnwell

William (Billy) Henry Barnwell was born on July 15, 1946 and passed into eternity on July 8, 2024. He is survived by his wife Sandra, his three sons Michael (Tammy), William (Lorie) and Edward, and his grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Rachael, Courtney, Jackson (great-grandchild), William, David, and Allison, as well as many nieces as nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Cheri Lynn, his parents William and Vivian, his brother Richard, and his sister Marlene. Billy, as he was known to most, grew up and attended school in Detroit. He was a baseball player who was once scouted by major league teams. He was also a boxer and boxing trainer as a young adult. He worked as a Millwright for many years and eventually became a Business Agent and Director for the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights. He later was elected to the Warren City Council and served as a councilman. His accomplishments included fighting for a prevailing wage and helping establish a new City Hall and Community Center. In both his careers in organized labor and elected office he was known as a champion of the "little guy." He spent his career and life helping other people. He was very outgoing and known to many as the life of the party and enjoyed having a good time with his friends. Countless people have fun and engaging stories with Billy. He most treasured time with his family. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He won many "Big Buck" hunting contests over the years and enjoyed hosting friends and family at his hunting property. He enjoyed sports, public service, and spending time with people. He spent over 50 years with his beloved wife Sandra. He was always very proud of all of his children. He was a member of Royal Oak Church and in 2022 accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the church. After a long battle with kidney failure, he is now free from pain and is at rest and reunited with his daughter. Visitation will be held at Royal Oak Church, located at 411 E. 11 Mile Rd. Royal Oak, MI 48067 on Friday July 12, 2024 at 9:30am until 11:00am. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Royal Oak Church.
