William J. "Bill" Chambo

William J. “Bill” Chambo, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024, at his home in Sterling Heights, Michigan surrounded by his family. He was 80 years old. William was born on February 1, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Emil and Evelyn Chambo. Devoted husband of 61 years, young William met his future wife while attending a church activity in 1958. Who knew that a simple tug of a ponytail would pull the strings of their hearts into a lasting friendship and 66 years of togetherness? William was a man of deep faith and integrity and a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran church in Utica, Michigan. He was known for his warm smile and beautiful blue eyes. When he was younger, he enjoyed being part of the boy scouts, singing in the church choir, and playing the trumpet in band. William was the first student at his school awarded the John Philip Sousa Award in 1962 for his achievements in music. After graduating from Osborn High School, he attended Wayne State University for a brief time until he took a job in the printing industry where he remained for over 50 years. William enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, walking in nature, bird watching, scenic drives, gardening, fishing, and playing games like 99 and Karma with his children and grandchildren. He was a master at jigsaw puzzles and always had one on the table for whoever stopped in to help him out. He looked forward to spending time on the weekends at their summer place in Caseville, Michigan where he piloted many jungle cruise adventures for his grandchildren. William simply loved being there. He loved his family very much and was so proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed being a great grandpa! William is survived by his wife, Suzanne of 61 years, his children: William C. “Bill” (Beth), Matthew (Victoria Hoefel), Laurel (Ken) Rutkowski, his grandchildren: Ashley (David) Shelton, Brendan (Samantha), Leya, Caden, Reagan, Kristin (Ian) Perotta, Alex and Eric Hoefel and his great grandchildren: Hailee, Kenzley and Eliza. He is also survived by his dear sister Ilene (Moots) Birch of Highland, Michigan and his sister-in-law Rebecca Smith (Jennifer John) of Troy, Michigan. Family and friends will gather to celebrate William's life with a visitation at the Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks E. of Van Dyke), Utica from 3-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 45160 Van Dyke Ave Utica. Friends and family are welcome to gather for visitation from 10am until time of the funeral service at 11a.m. Interment will be held at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church- Utica in his memory.
