Carol Norene Slaymaker

January 10, 1938 - October 26, 2021

Carol Norene (née Hall) (Ross) Slaymaker, age 83, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2021, at American House in Troy. She had been under hospice care since February, 2020. Carol was born on January 10, 1938 in Flint to Lloyd “Russell” and Elizabeth “Jeanne” (Warne) Hall. She was a 1955 graduate of Flint Central High School. Carol was a long-standing resident of Clawson and Royal Oak. She retired after working many years as a Bank Cashier at Wayne Oakland Bank, now PNC, in Royal Oak, Clawson, and Madison Heights. Carol was a lifetime member of the former Maple Leaf Post 84, Royal Canadian Legion, in Royal Oak. Carol enjoyed sewing Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren; knitting doll clothes, afghans, shawls, and scarves. She and her late husband, Reginald, knitted baby hats and booties for newborns at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Carol was a collector of many things - coins, stamps, teacups, and commemorative plates. She loved music and dancing, outdoor gardening, indoor plants, the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Pistons, as well as all animals; and continued to feed the birds and squirrels who visited her while she lived at American House. Beloved wife, for 17 years, to the late Reginald Slaymaker, born in Fulham, England. Loving mother of Pamala “Pete” Ross Pickering (Mark), Marsha Ross, David Ross, and George Ross (Nicole Meyer, and her daughters, Emily and Sarah). Proud grandmother of Briona (Grayson) McKinney and Dane (Allison) Richards; and great grandmother to Lochlan, Dempsey, and Madigan McKinney; and Theodore and Jackson Richards. Dear sister of the late Hazel “Bette” Hitsman, Emily Hale, and Donald Hall, and Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Carol was formerly married to George Ross of Williamsburg, MI, formerly of Clawson and Royal Oak. She leaves us rich in stories, traditions, and memories. Private services held. Memorial contributions to The Medical Team Hospice, 17197 North Laurel Park Drive, Suite 555, Livonia, Mi 48152. Share your memories at www.sullivanfuneraldirectors.com.
