Charles Richard Austin Sr.

January 27, 1937 - February 25, 2022

Charles Richard Austin, age 85, of Sterling Heights, passed away on February 25, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Betty. Loving father of Laurel (Johnny) Williams of Orange, TX; Charles Jr. (Patricia) of Virginia Beach, VA; Eraitt (Deborah) of Sterling Heights, MI; and Paul (Mary) of Richmond, VA. Dear brother of Donna Gottschall of Westerville, OH, the late Shirley Gerling and the late Louis Austin. Proud grandfather of Marla Mitchell, Shaina Williams, Alicia Rhyne, Ashton Austin, Alivia Austin, David Austin, Eraitt Austin II, Ashley Austin, Elora Austin, Elia Austin, the late Ethan Austin and great grandfather to Melody Mitchell, Jackson Rhyne, Kennedy Rhyne, and Graham Austin. Charles also leaves behind his adored dog, Bahbu. Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He would later work at and retire from the General Motors Technical Center in Warren. Charles was firmly devoted to his faith and family. He was a founding member of First Church of Sterling Heights. He assisted in the construction of the original sanctuary of First Church, as well as the sanctuary of the Apostolic Church of Auburn Hills, where he was currently attending. He was a Bible scholar, a prayer warrior, Sunday school teacher, and Christian counselor to many couples and individuals through his church. Charles loved spending time with his family who loved him deeply and will miss him dearly. Charles' family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road, (3 blocks East of Van Dyke), Utica. Visitation and funeral services will continue on Thursday, March 3, 2022, visitation from 6:00 p.m. until his service at 7:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Church of Auburn Hills, 3655 N. Squirrel Road, Auburn Hills. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated toThe Salvation Army, Gleaners Community Food Bank, Purple Heart, or Beaumont Hospice.
