Eileen "Gerry" Quenneville

Eileen Geraldine "Gerry" (Oliver) Quenneville was born on December 19, 1929, the year of The Crash and start of the Great Depression. Gerry was raised in Windsor, Ontario by her English father and Irish mother with grace, class, and an old-fashioned charm. She did well in school and loved sports, playing on the basketball team which was coached by a nun in a Catholic full habit. Gerry married the love of her life, Roger, in 1952. They built a full life together that included 5 children, many camping road trips, family get togethers, holiday celebrations, all kinds of music, many pets, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gerry took pleasure in the most simple things in life. She loved laughter, music, nature, and crossword puzzles. Gerry's greatest joy was her big, exuberant family. She looked forward to every gathering in her Royal Oak home. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were always welcome, treasured, and well fed. Gerry looked forward to baseball season each year, and amused all with the passionate, armchair-coaching she would give to her beloved Tigers on TV. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh, providing an easy audience for the antics of her family. Gerry had a quick mind and her children often joked that "before the internet, we called mom," who seemed to know how to spell anything, and answer just about every question. Her often repeated advice of "kill them with kindness" was something she practiced in her own life. Kindness, treasuring loved ones, supportiveness, and respect are part of the amazing legacy she left us. Rest In Peace, mama. Beloved wife of the late Roger (d. 2015); loving mother of Frank, Michael (Donna), Patrick, Judy, and Joanne (Jimmie) Roach; proud grandmother of seven; and great grandmother of eight. Visitation Thursday 4-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. scripture service at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Road (4 blocks E of Woodward), Royal Oak. In state Friday 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, Royal Oak. Burial at Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley.
