Gordon Yerke

Gordon Edward Yerke went home to Our Lord and Savior on December 27, 2020 at Henry Ford Hospital in Clinton Township surrounded by his family. Gordon was born on April 4, 1946 in Detroit, MI to Clifford Yerke and Eleanora (Russell) Yerke. A brother of Allen (Julia) Yerke and Russell Yerke. He graduated from Dondero High School in Royal Oak in 1964 and married the love of his life Sandra (Schmid) Yerke on June 28, 1969. They enjoyed 50 loving years together before she passed away on September 15, 2019. They had three children; Heather (Greg) Holmes, Michael (Haven) Yerke and Melody (Donald) Setzler and 7 grandchildren; Brianna, Claire, Julien, Michaela, Karl, Eleanora and Gordon. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather and would always make time to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s events, along with helping to put his three children through college with his hardworking spirit. Gordon worked at GM Truck and Bus for 10 years and then American Axel where he retired in 2009. He attended Lawrence Tech and graduated from Baker College with a degree in Industrial Management. He was a lifelong resident of Royal Oak where you could find him outside working in the yard and attending to his roses. He was a member of Local 98 and UAW and a member of the NRA. Gordon was a devout and faithful Christen and attended Woodlawn Church of God which is now Woodside Bible Church. Gordon loved the outdoors and sports. He enjoyed taking his boat out to go fishing, hitting up the gun range, attending tractor pulls, boat and car races and cheering on the Detroit Lions and MSU. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife and brother Russell Yerke. Memorial contributions can be made to Boys Town or St. Joseph’s Indian School. A socially distanced visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of service 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Sullivan & Son funeral home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Road, Royal Oak, Michigan, 48067 **Due to COVID-19, and in accordance with CDC recommendations and the Governor's Executive Orders, please be advised that the funeral home is limited to 25 people in the visitation/service room at any given time.
