John Vertriest

July 29, 1962 - November 28, 2021

John Alan Vertriest, a resident of Shelby Township, passed away on November 28, 2021 at the age of 59 after a long battle with Huntington Disease. Son of Al and Ida, born on July 29, 1962 in Grosse Pointe. John earned his bachelor's degree from Lawrence Tech and enjoyed his career of 29 years as an Industrial Engineer at Chrysler. He proudly designed the Hemi engine and its assembly plan. John married the love of his life, Linda Abbott, on September 6, 1985 at Our Lady of Good Council Church in Detroit. John's life was full of smiles and laughter. He never turned down a cold beer with friends. John could fix anything around the house and was skilled in woodworking. He had a tool for every job, and if he didn't he would go out and buy it. John and Linda loved to travel and enjoyed camping all over the country in their younger years, and more recently enjoyed Waffle Farm Campground in Coldwater. While camping, they would cruise the waters in his inflatable boat, affectionately known as "John's Yacht.". He loved warm weather and had the tan to prove it. John will be remembered as a great guy. Beloved husband of Linda, joined in love for 36 years. Dear brother of Denise (Dave) Vertriest, Patricia (the late Tom) Banach, and Linda (Sonny) Weckesser; and brother-in-law to Robert (Karen) Abbott, Geri (the late Jim) Howell, and Carol (Mike) Piku.
