Richard D. Ventura
October 10, 1938 - April 11, 2022
Richard Dominic Ventura, age 83, of Royal Oak, passed away on April 11, 2022. Richard graduated from Wayne State University with degrees in Economics and Finance. He then enjoyed a long career as a contractor administrator with TACOM within the Department of Defense. Richard’s interests outside of work were broad. He loved reading, watching sports—especially baseball and horse racing, and taking long walks during his working years. He was particularly passionate about opera. He devoted his time to serving on the board of Verdi Opera Theatre Michigan, and he was a member of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He also had a very special place in his heart for animals. Richard had all the attributes one could want: He was kind, very much a gentleman, very smart and very generous. He was quiet but could talk to anybody about anything, and he was very comfortable meeting people for the first time. He will be warmly remembered as a wonderful person. Survived by his companion, Margaret, Richard will be dearly missed. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 13, from 5 – 8 p.m. and Thursday, April 14, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service, 12:30 p.m., at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. Burial to follow at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak. The family kindly requests no flowers. Please instead consider a contribution in Richard’s memory to Michigan Humane Society, Detroit Opera House, or Verdi Opera Theatre of Michigan. Share a memory a www.SullivanFuneralDirectors.com.
