Sharlene Therese Roth-Sluma
September 18, 1956 - December 9, 2021
Sharlene Therese Roth-Sluma of Eastpointe, MI passed away on Thursday night, December 9th, 2021 at Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit, MI from pancreatic cancer. She was 65 years old. Sharlene was born on September 18th, 1956 in Detroit to William E. and Joanne T. (Hall) Roth. Sharlene grew up on the east side of Detroit and had many friends from the neighborhood. She attended St. David Catholic School. When tuition dramatically increased, Shar was transferred to Goodale Elementary School, and eventually moved on to Denby High School. Shar left school before graduating, though she was brilliant. In her early thirties, Shar met Phil and fell in love. Shar and Phil welcomed their son Jordan into the world on December 9th, 1995 (Sharlene was 39). Jordan was the love of Shar's life, and she enjoyed every day with him, except for a few occasions during his teen years. :-) While in her forties, Shar decided to go back to school. Navigating the computer was rough at first, though she became a wiz, and we all leaned on her for her skills in research and maneuvering the world-wide web. She graduated from Wayne State University with honors, earning a degree in Education. Shar briefly worked as an educator of pre-school children, and also worked for a short time with special needs children in the Eastpointe Public School System. Shar loved everyone in her life, though she especially loved the children. She was nurturing and loving in her frank, funny, and caring way, starting with her youngest sister, Lisa (8 years younger). This guidance and support continued with her nieces and nephews Adina, Brandon, Kathryn, Nathan, Leigha, Nick, Elise, Aurora, Aydan, Angelina, Arissa, Alaura, and Clifford who all held (and hold) a special place in Aunt Shar's heart. To all her family and friends, Shar was the masterful storyteller of everyday life, keeping us in rapt attention, or sending us into gales of laughter. We all know, too, how she made gift-giving into an art form--a beautiful expression of her love--finding or creating the most delightful, personal, meaningful gifts for both children and adults. A wonderful legacy. Sharlene is survived by her husband Phillip W. Sluma, son Jordan W. Sluma, mother Joanne T. Roth, brothers Christopher J. Roth and Patrick Q. Roth, sisters Michele M. (Roth) Nalu (and her husband William) and Manda L. Roth. In addition, she is survived by loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and important long-time friends. Sharlene was preceded in death by her father William E. Roth, sister Lisa M. Fox (Daniel), nephews Brandon Fox and Nathan Fox, and niece Leigha Roth. Services will be held at Wm Sullivan and Son, located at 8459 Hall Rd (M-59), Utica, MI 48317 on December 18th, 2021, from 12:00pm until 8:00pm. A special service, a Celebration of Sharlene's Life, will take place at 3:00pm, and will be conducted by Sharlene's Family. "Death ends a life, not a relationship."
