Walter P. Pell

Walter Pell, 86, passed away at Evergreen Living Center in St Ignace on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. Walter was born in Hancock, MI to Nicholas and Eleanor (Jaanus) Pellosmaa. He lived most of his life in the Detroit area. He graduated from Pershing High School, honorably discharged from the Navy, and was a graduate of Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He worked as a counselor for the Michigan Employment Security Agency for 31 years. Walter loved sports, especially baseball & tennis. He was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan. Walter was a very religious man. He was an active member in two churches, Congregation Beth Messiah and Reverend Mary-Lou Brown Ministries of Detroit. The fall of 2015, he moved from Berkley, MI to Freighterview Assisted Living in Sault Ste Marie to be near his cousin Garleen Uusitalo and her husband, Mauri. Walter really enjoyed his time at Freighterview. He kept saying this was one of the best periods of his life. The staff and residents at Frieghterview will miss his humor, beautiful singing voice at worship services, and kind demeanor. Walter recently transferred to the Evergreen Living Center in St Ignace. Walter is survived by his caregivers, Garleen & Mauri Uusitalo, his sister-in-law Jean Pell, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Victor Pell. A service will be held at Wm Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blocks E. of Woodward), Royal Oak, on Sunday, April 24, 2022. Visitation from 11:00 until the time of funeral 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a church of your choice.
