Wayne E. Stockton

October 15, 1930 - September 16, 2021

On September 16, 2021, Wayne E. Stockton entered into glory one month before his 91st birthday. Wayne was born on October 15, 1930, in Flint, Michigan and grew up on a farm in Flushing. He was the second child of Farmer John and Margaret (Klock) Stockton. In 1955 he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State and in June 1956 he married Ruth Clink. He then entered the Air Force and was stationed in Great Britain with his new bride. Following his military service, Wayne and Ruth returned to Metro Detroit. They raised their three children in Southfield Michigan, and he practiced Veterinary Medicine for 34 years at Kelly Veterinary Hospital in Detroit. Wayne was an active member of Ferndale Free Methodist Church and enjoyed taking his family on road trips all over the US, often in pursuit of an unusual rock or a rare bird sighting. Upon retirement Wayne and Ruth moved to Wayne's family property in the Huron National Forest. Wayne was an avid lover of the outdoors, and for the two decades that he and Ruth spent up north he loved gardening, hunting, and all that northern Michigan had to offer. His faithful tractor carried him all around his 80 acres, from the pole barn to Uncle Mahlon's field and back through the Pine Palace. Retirement was also his chance to travel the world with Ruth. Wayne is survived by his wife, Ruth; children Ann (Gordon) Nickel, David (Sue) Stockton, Susan Snyder; grandchildren Rebecca (Pat) Cooke, Christina Nickel, Jessica Snyder, Charles Snyder, Joe Stockton, Landon Nickel, Hannah Snyder, Daniel Stockton; great granddaughter Lucy; brother Eugene; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Laurel, sister Shirley, and brother Lynwood. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 22, from 4:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blocks E. of Woodward), Royal Oak. There will be no visitation on Thursday. The funeral service will take place Friday, September 24, 11:00 a.m. (visitation 10:00) at Ferndale Free Methodist Church, 1950 Woodward Heights, Ferndale. Graveside service will be take place Saturday, September 25, 2 p.m. at Twin Lakes Cemetery in Lincoln, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Ferndale Free Methodist Church, Ferndale, MI (https://ferndalefmc.com) or Lincoln United Methodist Church, Lincoln, MI (https://www.umc.org/en/find-a-church/church/?id=52982) are appreciated.
