Calvin Lorin Corn, age 87, of East China Twp, Michigan, and formerly of Brooksville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7th, in Clinton Township, Michigan, after a life defined by love, hard work, and devotion to his family. Calvin is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife of 62 years, Barbara Corn (née Nash), and his cherished daughter, Teri Sellers. He leaves behind his loving children, Thomas (Sally) Corn and Mary (Tony) MacDonald. He was the proud grandfather of Patricia Kanona, Jeffrey (Tabitha) Sellers Jr., Steven (Sarah) Sellers, Thomas (Savannah) Corn Jr., and Stephanie (Wyatt) Osborne. His greatest joy continued to grow through his great-grandchildren, Ashley (James), Malania, Julianna, Abigail, Logan, Jeffrey III, Wyatt II, Harrison, Samantha, Everett, Calvin, and Avery, as well as his great-great-grandchildren, Bailey and Lucy. He is also survived by his sister, Betty (Kenneth) Bryant; his brother, Jimmy (Millie) Corn; many beloved nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Rosie the dog. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert and Cheryl. Calvin was born on July 26, 1938, in Butler County, Kentucky, to the late Calvin and Lorean Corn. He grew up in Detroit, MI. He was affectionately known as "Junior" to the Corn family, named for his father. As a child, he enjoyed spending time with his 4 siblings: Betty, Jimmy, Robert, and Cheryl, and playing marbles, mucking around Kentucky with his cousins, playing horseshoes, cards, and chess, and working as a pinsetter at the bowling alley. Calvin met Barbara Nash in 1958 in front of Brey's Hamburgers when Calvin was cruising the town with his cousin, Leroy. It was love at first sight; the two were married on October 3rd, 1959, beginning their remarkable 62-year love story built on faith, laughter, perseverance, and unwavering commitment. Together, they raised three wonderful children, Tom, Teri, and Mary, and moved to Royal Oak, MI. Calvin built his career working his way up at AdStat. He started as a messenger boy in 1955, worked as a photostat operator, developing pictures, and as a darkroom technician. One of Calvin's favorite work memories was developing regular camera footage from the very first Super Bowl. He eventually retired as an executive from J. Walter Thompson after working with various advertising companies through Ad-Stat. His career reflected his belief that hard work, integrity, and perseverance could open doors. Following retirement, Calvin and Barbara moved to East China, where they lived along the Belle River. There, Calvin enjoyed fishing and being a grandpa. Barbara and Calvin were "snowbirds" as well, spending winters at their other home in Brooksville, Florida. In the Florida sun, Calvin enjoyed cheering on Detroit sports teams (Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings), spending time at Busch Gardens, and taking walks with his dogs, Stanley and Rosie. Calvin was a practicing Catholic at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Marine City, MI, and St. Frances X. Cabrini Parish in Spring Hill, FL. More than any accomplishment, however, Calvin measured his life by his family. He worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for his children while teaching them lessons they carried throughout their lives: the value of hard work, the importance of forgiveness, the strength found in humility, and that no one is ever too proud to say, "I'm sorry." He encouraged his daughters to be strong and independent, and he made sure his children knew they were loved-not just through words, but through the steady presence he offered every day. Whether tossing a baseball, sharing stories from "the old days," or reminding them to "pay yourself first," he left them with memories and wisdom that will last a lifetime. Lovingly known as "Grandpa Corn," Calvin embraced his role as a grandfather with immense pride. Sleepovers at Grandma and Grandpa's house, fishing trips, rides in the rowboat, family gatherings, and quiet moments spent together became treasured traditions. He celebrated every new addition to the family with genuine excitement and took every opportunity to create memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They never had to wonder where they stood with him-family always came first. Friends and loved ones also remember Calvin's unmistakable swagger, a walk that made him instantly recognizable in any crowd. It reflected the quiet confidence, resilience, and determination that carried him through life. In his later years, Calvin found contentment in the familiar comforts of home. He enjoyed watching classic films-especially Forrest Gump-listening to the timeless voices of Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty, and George Jones, and spending peaceful days back in East China. Calvin's story is one of perseverance, humility, and unconditional love. Without a high school diploma, he built a successful career, provided a wonderful life for his family, and achieved dreams that once seemed out of reach. Yet the accomplishments he valued most could never be measured by titles or possessions. He was proudest of the family he and Barbara built together, the enduring marriage they shared, and the devotion he showed to the people he loved.
