Catherine "Kay" Cyrek August 16, 1923 - December 30, 2023 Catherine "Kay" Cyrek, a spirited soul of great warmth and sociability, passed away on December 30, 2023, at the age of 100. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, dedication, and a zest for social connection. Born on August 16, 1923, in Schenectady, NY, to Francis Scislowicz and Stella Fijalkowski Scislowicz, Kay ventured to Detroit, where she found love and married Joseph S. Cyrek on October 10, 1943. Together, they built a life full of shared experiences and adventures. She worked as a beautician for many years in Berkley and continued in retirement in Florida, assisting her neighbors with their haircare. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, and a love for bowling. In Lakeland, FL, she participated in mixed bowling leagues, and upon her return to Michigan, she joined women's leagues, showcasing her competitive spirit. Kay was also an avid bridge player, enjoying the camaraderie and strategy the game offered. Her vibrant social nature illuminated every gathering she attended, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her effervescent personality made her a cherished companion, and she will be fondly remembered for her zest for life and her genuine care for others. Kay was the beloved wife of the late Joseph, who passed away on November 18, 1999, a loving mother to Joseph (Patricia) Cyrek, and the late Sandra Harris. She was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was the dear sister of the late Robert Scislowicz (Irene), Frank Scislowicz (Delphine), and Thomas Scislowicz (Emily). Visitation to honor Kay's memory will be held on Wednesday from 2 - 8 pm, including a rosary at 6 pm, at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, located at 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blks E. of Woodward), Royal Oak. A funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, with in-state viewing at 9:30 am until the time of Mass at 10 am at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica.
