El Don Pickens Sr. a beloved husband, father, sibling and friend who passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026. Born on June 2, 1970, in Detroit, Michigan, El Don was the beloved son of Daisy and Lee Hayslett. He was the cherished middle child of three siblings, alongside Tyrone Pickens and Crystal Taylor. Raised in Detroit, El Don attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Mumford High School in 1989. After graduation, he began a career with 3M at 18, where he was recognized for his dedication, integrity, and unwavering work ethic. Throughout his life, El Don earned the respect and admiration of those around him through his commitment to excellence and the pride he took in his work. On March 28, 2002, El Don married the love of his life, Shondia Flournoy, beginning a loving partnership that spanned 30 years. Together, they built a home filled with love, faith, laughter, and cherished family traditions while raising their three beloved children: La'Niya, Daihja, and El Don Pickens Jr. Their family was the center of El Don's life, and he took great pride in being a devoted husband and a loving father whose guidance, support, and unconditional love will remain with them always. A devoted father, brother, and friend, El Don found his greatest joy in spending quality time with his family and friends. He had a passion for traveling, enjoyed participating in bowling leagues, and loved the freedom of riding his motorcycle. Whether sharing a laugh, lending a helping hand, or simply being present for those he loved, El Don touched countless lives with his kindness, generosity, and unforgettable sense of humor. His warm spirit, infectious smile, and unwavering love for those around him will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. El Don is survived by wife Shondia Pickens; children La'Niya, Daihja, and El Don Jr.; siblings Tyrone Pickens, Crystal (Kevin) Taylor, and Cindy (Brantley) King, first cousin Darryl (Terah) Carter as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to family and friends for their compassionate care and support. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
