Gail Lowe Parrino

Gail Lowe Parrino, age 90, passed away on February 16, 2026 at Brookdale Troy Memory Care. She was born on May 17, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, to Margaret E. Hullinger and Ralph J. Hullinger of Royal Oak, Michigan. Gail was a resident of Sterling Heights, Michigan, after previously living in Sherman Oaks, California, and Durango, Colorado. She was married to Joseph F. Parrino, who preceded her in death in September 2014. Gail is survived by her sisters Judy Heugh (Larry) of Troy, Michigan; Inez Redman (Jack deceased), of Asheville, North Carolina; and Jill Dilley of Paoli, Pennsylvania. Gail also leaves behind eight nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and great-nephews , all of whom were touched by her generosity, intelligence, and steady encouragement. A proud graduate of Michigan State University, Class of 1957, Gail devoted her life to education and the advancement of mathematics instruction. She earned her doctorate, minus her dissertation in mathematics and education. Throughout her distinguished career she served as a teacher, principal, mathematics supervisor, and math consultant. Her leadership and expertise led her to serve on the Board of Directors for the National Consultants of Teachers of Mathematics, where she contributed to improving math education nationwide. After retirement, Gail continued to share her expertise as a consultant for the Hawaii Department of Education, where she worked for several years instructing new math techniques to math teachers. Hawaii became her personal paradise. She owned a timeshare there for many years and cherished every visit with family and friends. Gail was also an avid world traveler. Her adventures took her across the globe, but Africa held a special place in her heart-a destination she visited seven times and spoke of with deep affection and wonder. She made it to every continent except Antarctica. Gail had a special effect on people-her warm smile, gentle manner, and genuine kindness made everyone feel welcome in her presence. She was a loving sister, aunt, mentor, and friend. Her kind soul will continue to shine through the wonderful memories she leaves behind. Gail will be deeply missed by her family and by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be laid to rest in Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak, MI. There will be no funeral service; a Celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
