Gwendolyn J. Garriott

Gwendolyn Garriott, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on June 12, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on June 29, 1939, she grew up to be a beacon of love and warmth to all who knew her. Gwendolyn leaves behind her devoted husband of 61 years, Jerry Garriott. She is also survived by her two loving daughters, Wendy (Michael) Bretsik and Lynne (Charles) Newton, as well as her dear brother, Raymond (Rita) Morrow. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Joshua (Madison) Martin, Kelsea (Austin) Robinson, Madison Newton, Adam Martin, Brent Newton, Brianna Newton, and Evan Bretsik and she eagerly anticipated the arrival of her first great-grandson. Gwendolyn is predeceased by her parents, Earl and Laura Morrow. Gwendolyn and Jerry first met back in 8th grade, and their beautiful relationship together officially blossomed while they were in college. Jerry fondly remembers her as a "jewel," a testament to her incredible warmth and beautiful presence inside and out. Gwendolyn was a dedicated elementary music teacher who had a passion for the piano, which she not only played beautifully but also taught with great enthusiasm. Her love for music and dedication to her faith led her to become an organist at Warren First United Methodist Church, where her music uplifted and inspired many. Gwen was a warrior, facing every challenge, especially her illness, with remarkable strength and resilience. Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through every trial and triumph. Her kind heart and selfless nature ensured that everyone around her was cared for, often placing their needs above her own. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and being surrounded by them brought her immense happiness. Gwen's warm and comforting nature made her beloved by all who met her, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Gwendolyn Garriott's legacy of love, music, and faith will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, located at 5005 Chicago Rd. in Warren.
