Harry S. Kolomyjec

Harry Kolomyjec, a cherished husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and beloved friend, passed away on May 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and enduring memories. Born on February 14, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, Harry lived a life full of joy, kindness, and generosity. For 66 years, Harry was the beloved husband of Doris "Lil" Kolomyjec, a partnership marked by commitment, shared dreams, and unwavering love. Together, they created a family filled with love and warmth, raising children who reflect the values of compassion and togetherness. Harry was a loving father to Doriann (Stuart) Trombley, Dennis (Vicki) Kolomyjec, Denise (Bryan) Dolehanty, Danielle (Paul) Rempala, and the late Donald Kolomyjec. His nurturing spirit extended to his role as a grandfather, where he took immense pride in the accomplishments and joys of Dalena (Donald), Stephen (Jennifer), Kara (John Paul), Kevin, Delaney (Travis), Ian, Ellie, Zachary, and Nicholas. He was also a great-grandfather to Bryce, Isaiah, Brady, and Sophia. Harry was the dear brother of Otto "Paul" (Avis) Loomis, Sharon (the late Theodore) Heabeart, and the late Carol Loomis. His extended family was very important as well including numerous nieces and nephews, who he shared love, support and laughter that enriched his life. Harry was a true patriarch. He was the go-to for the family for many different needs; from how things work, how to fix things or help fixing things, or advice on anything and everything. If you showed an interest in something, Harry would take you under his wing. When it came to fixing anything, he would take the time to teach you, show you how to fix it, be there as you then fix it, and he would only step in if it was necessary. His daughters recall him insisting that they were independent, remembering him saying “I do not know who you are going to marry, so I want you to be self-sufficient.” Harry was a very generous man; not only with his time but monetarily to charities- he did so quietly and often without show. He was very loyal to all who knew him. Harry was also a very smart man, he enjoyed reading and learning everything he could, but he especially enjoyed science fiction. He also appreciated the challenge of crossword puzzles and Sudoku. Harry liked keeping his hands busy. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, and building R/C and model airplanes. He also stayed busy playing softball and bowling. Harry was very disciplined and organized around the house. He was clean and he was the king of recycling, even before it was as popular as it is today. Above everything else, traditions and family were the most important to him. Harry loved hosting Christmas. He appreciated having the family over and hosting the meal, he relished the opportunity to be generous and he prided himself on having a safe place to gather with a full stocked bar. He was also delighted in being the family photographer. He cherished those memories. Harry will be deeply missed. Harry's family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road (3 blocks East of Van Dyke), Utica. Funeral services will be held for Harry on Tuesday, May 20, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
