JoAnne E. Malcolm

JoAnne Elizabeth Malcolm, age 93, of Berkley, passed away on December 20, 2024. She was born on April 9, 1931 in Detroit to John and Martha Kolka. JoAnne grew up in Royal Oak. She attended Shrine of the Little Flower schools and graduated from Shrine High School. Her faith was an important part of her life, beginning with her time as a child at Shrine and evolving over the years with the different parishes that she became a part of. JoAnne was a skilled seamstress, a creative cook, and a devoted homemaker who raised five children. She charmed everyone she knew with a song for every occasion. Many times she did not need an occasion to bring joy to others with a song. She also enjoyed her time entertaining others as a clown, in her original clown outfit. JoAnne also had a talent for making the most of what she had, whether in the kitchen or in life, and she was always willing to help others. Through her involvement with her MSU extension group, she shared her skills and made many meaningful contributions to her community. JoAnne's faith, family, and community were central to her life. She shared her practical talents, generosity, and commitment with everyone she loved and will be dearly missed. JoAnne will be remembered as the beloved wife of the late Lee Victor Malcolm. Loving mother of Vicky (Robert) Theaker, Kenneth (Kristen) Malcolm, Peter (Donna) Malcolm, Marla (James) Sanborn, the late Julie (survived by Daniel) Monico, and the late infant Martha Malcolm. Proud grandmother of thirteen and great-grandmother of eighteen. Dear sister of James (Kathleen) Kolka, and the late Lois, Deloras, and Jack. Visitation for JoAnne will be held on Friday, December 27, from 2 - 8 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 28 at 10 a.m. (visitation 9:30 a.m.) at Christ our Light! Catholic Church, 3077 Glouchester Dr. Troy. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
