Marie Therese Towne

Marie Therese Towne, age 92, a resident of Troy, died September 24, 2013 in Sterling Heights. She was born February 8, 1921 in Warren to the late William and Grace Hearns. Marie Therese Hearns fell in love with Clifford Calvin Towne and married April 11, 1942. Over the years, Marie and Clifford became the proud and loving parents to ten children, Clifford Jr., Nancy deceased, Mary, Frances, Janice, Diane, Ronald, Judith, Stephen and Kenneth; 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. While raising their children Marie and Clifford lived on 13 Mile Road in Royal Oak. Marie was employed at Alberts and DeVlieg Machine Company in Royal Oak, Michigan. In 1967, they bought property north of Mecosta, Michigan and together built a second home. In 1986, they sold their long-time home and moved up north to enjoy the country living at Canadian Lakes in Stanwood, Michigan. Marie and Clifford began their retirement in anticipation of sharing their golden years. Marie resided with her husband Clifford until his passing on March 11, 1988. She missed the days when she would go square dancing with her husband Clifford at Canadian Lakes. Marie then spent her summer months in Canadian Lakes and the winter months in Lady Lakes, Florida; where she enjoyed the company of her younger sister, Donna and sisters-in-law Laverne, Alberta and Phyllis. In 2006, Marie moved to The American House Senior Living Center in Troy, Michigan. She was very active socially and was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan! She enjoyed playing Bingo, card games, and Bridge while thoroughly enjoying her later years of life. Marie was loved by so many and will be extremely missed. Marie was a strong, courageous woman who always had a gentle, caring and loving personality. She always greeted you with a smile and made you feel as though you were touched by an angel and we were. We are truly blessed with having had the opportunity to experience and appreciate a "fantastic", Mother, Grandmother and Friend! She is survived by her children, Clifford Debbie Towne, Mary Crawford, Frances Cichoracki, Janice Mark Briones, Diane Joe Hardin-Groce, Ronald Towne, Judith Roy Lange, Stephen Kim Towne and Kenneth Lisa Towne; sister, Donna Gino Berti; sisters-in-law, Laverne, Phyllis and Alberta Hearns; 22 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Calvin Towne; daughter, Nancy Ann Matejewski; and brothers, William, Joseph, Richard and Robert Hearns. The visitation will be Thursday 1-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. scripture service at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Marie will lie in state Friday 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass 9:30 a.m. at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Troy. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
