Mary Snyder

Mary Elizabeth Snyder, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026. She was born on August 21, 1943, and lived a life defined by deep love for her family, generosity toward others, and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Mary was the beloved wife of Terry T. Snyder, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. They were married on October 4, 1968, and built a life rooted in devotion, laughter, and family traditions. She was a loving mother to Chris Carol (Doug) Oliver and children; Robert (Gloria) Hocking and children; Shannon (Marc) Newby and children; Christine (the late Paul) Shelton; James (Shawn) Snyder; and William (Holly) Snyder. Mary was a proud and devoted grandmother to Danielle Hocking, Tiffany (Daniel) Kennedy, Katelynn (Joshua) DeBruyne, Joshua (Elizabeth) Shelton, Alexis (Evan) Olds, Dillon (Abigail) Shelton, Julia Shelton, Isabella Snyder, and Luke Snyder. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Brendan Kennedy, Luna Hocking, Hayden Kennedy, Ginny Shelton, Raelynn Kennedy, Gwen Shelton, and Elijah DeBruyne, each of whom brought her immense joy. Mary is also survived by her dear sister, Gail (the late Ken) Wilson, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Gross and Marguerite Adamian; her sons, Richard "Ricky" Hocking and Terry "Bubba" Snyder; and her sister, Roberta "Bobbie" (Tom) Peterson. Mary had a true love for life. She especially enjoyed cruising in her cherished '55 Chevy and loved participating in the Woodward and Gratiot Dream Cruises. She found happiness in cooking and baking for her family, always making sure no one left her home hungry. Summers were often spent fishing and camping at Groveland Oaks Campground in Holly, surrounded by her entire family, memories that will be treasured forever. Mary's greatest gift was her heart. She was an exceptionally kind and loving woman who made everyone feel welcome, valued, and cared for. Her home was always open, her table always full, and her arms always ready to comfort. Mary had a way of putting others before herself, never hesitating to help anyone in need. Her kindness was not just something she did, it was who she was. The impact of her loving spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched, and her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who had the privilege of knowing her. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 3-8 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall rd. (3blks. E. of Van Dyke) in Utica.
