Michael McMahon

Michael R. McMahon, a beloved member of the community and a passionate engineer, has recently passed away at his residence in Independence Township, MI. He was 64 years old. Born on October 16, 1958, in Royal Oak, MI, Michael was the son of Raymond and Lorraine McMahon. He attended Kimball High School in Royal Oak and graduated in 1977. Michael's love for problem-solving and his natural aptitude for engineering led him to pursue a career in the automotive industry. For many years, Michael worked as an engineer at Nissan, where he made valuable contributions to the field. He dedicated his expertise to the Tank Arsenal in Warren, MI, where he was involved in testing tanks, showcasing his commitment to precision and quality. In recent years, he joined the team at Green Optics in Auburn Hills, applying his knowledge and skills in a new and exciting field. Outside of work, Michael had a zest for life and enjoyed various activities. One of his favorite annual events was the Woodward Dream Cruise, where he could be found cruising in his cherished 1969 frost green Camaro. His love for classic cars and the camaraderie among fellow enthusiasts brought him great joy. Michael also found solace and happiness in the serene ambiance of the beach in Grand Haven, where he would often spend his leisure time with family. In his younger days, he had a passion for and scuba diving and surfing, relishing the thrill of exploring the depths of the ocean. Michael also spent countless weekends mountain biking, skiing and exploring the great outdoors. Additionally, he had an appreciation for movies, finding entertainment and inspiration in cinematic storytelling. Michael will be deeply missed by his loving family. He is survived by his daughters Maren (Phil) McCarthy and Lauren McMahon. He was a proud and cherished grandfather of Henry Michael McCarthy. Michael was also a loving brother to Dan (Elaine) McMahon, Jan O'Neill, and Barb (Jim) Caldwell. A celebration of Michael's life will be held at a later date, providing an opportunity for family, and friends to come together, share stories, and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Michael's name to The Humane Society, as a tribute to his love for animals, compassionate spirit and desire to make a positive impact on the world. We will forever carry Michael's warmth, kindness, and endless sense of humor in our hearts. May he rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire us all.
