Norm Thom

Theodore Norman Thom, age 93, of Royal Oak, passed away on November 25, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Helen Grace Thom. Loving father of Mark (Ann), Norma (John) Teerman, Karrie (Dave McGill) Mahrle, and Dennis. Proud grandfather of Zachary Thom, Bridgette (Ryan Haney) Thom, Monica (David) Konschnik, Jenna (Chris) Turner, Jeff Jackson, Jeremy Mahrle, Steven Mahrle, and Daniel (Nicole) Mahrle; and great-grandfather of Mabel, Teddy, Anna, Lucy, Leslie, Justin, Nolan, and Carter. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Predeceased by his parents, John and Adena Thom, and his siblings: Pauline, Kathleen, Wilfred ("Bill"), and Carl. Norm was persistently happy, loved to have fun, and easily got along with anyone he met. He served as class president of his graduating Class of 1948 at Hazel Park High School, and he stayed close with many of his classmates throughout the years, organizing yearly reunions up until just recently. He retired from Hostess Cakes. Blessed with a keen wit, Norm loved to share jokes and bring about smiles daily, and he enjoyed serving as a longtime usher at Shrine of the Little Flower Church. He was also a devoted Tigers fan ("since 1929," he used to say), and he faithfully rooted for his home team-and of course anyone who played against the Yankees. Beyond closely following the Tigers, Norm also loved to garden and took great pride in tending to his yard, as well as his annual Dickens Christmas Village that contained over 100 structures and was featured several times in local papers. He will be dearly missed. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 29, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 30 at 10:00 a.m. (visitation 9:30) at the funeral home.
