Thomas John Zugaj

Thomas John Zugaj, age 60, of Madison Heights, passed away on October 26, 2022. Tom was an amazing brother. He was a true family man that loved his family to the end. He loved all the get togethers and the holiday traditions. We were just talking a few weeks ago about all the parties we used to have when we were all young and they would start early afternoon and go until 3 in the morning and that was basically every weekend (Dave’s house, Joe’s house, Stan’s house, at the boat up north at Joe’s). We always had something going on. We all spent so much time together. As we were looking through pictures to put out for his visitation it brought back so many amazing, fun memories that I will always hold dear to my hear. He was always there when I needed him. I could talk to him about anything and he would listen and never pass judgement. And as I think we all know he would listen, but Tom was a man of few words. I would tell him he was the vault. Whatever you told him you knew was going to stay between the two of you. I know these last several years have been very hard on him fighting stage 4 lung cancer and COPD, but he never complained. His oncologist, Dr. Ashkar would say you are amazing, you are strong like a bull. I remember when we first started going to his oncologist appointments, I always was doing all the talking asking questions and the doctor told me from the very beginning. This is about Tom. You are bossy, but he is the boss and Tom would say that’s ok she’s got this. When I could see he was feeling worse than normal, I would ask him to please tell me what was going on so I could help him. He would always say I’m fine, just not feeling too good today. And I know it was very hard for him to ask for help. He was a strong man, a proud man. But he would say it so often how appreciative for everything we did for him. Never just took it for granted. He has left me with so many memories that I know in the coming days/years will give me solace and bring a smile to my face when I think of them. Poppashanga!!!!! Big Guy Visitation will take place on Friday, October 28, from 3 - 8 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. (visitation 9:30) at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, 3151 Farnsworth St., Detroit.
