Verda Mae Steiber

Verda Mae Steiber of Clawson, Michigan passed away on August 22, 2022 at the age of 93 with her family close by her side. Verda Mae was born in Rochester, Michigan on May 21, 1929. She moved to Royal Oak when she was 13 and became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak. In high school, she met her future husband and life-long love, Arthur. They were married October 7, 1950 at St. Paul and were inseparable during their 70 wonderful years of marriage, showing what a strong marriage rooted in faith looks like to all who knew them. She graduated as salutatorian from Royal Oak High School in 1947, and became a RN after graduating from Henry Ford Hospital Nursing School. After working at Wake Clinic in Royal Oak as a pediatric nurse, she left to take on her greatest challenge: raising her children. Once her kids were grown, she went back to work at Handleman in accounts payable until her retirement in 1990. Her pride and joy was her family, which was constantly growing. She had three children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. They would never have made it to where they are today without her life lessons and worrying. She always stayed in touch with her extended family through daily phone calls and frequent visits, praying for each one of them every day. She also enjoyed playing the piano, knitting and planning family vacations to get the whole family together. Verda Mae is preceded in death by her husband Arthur, parents Carl and Louise, brothers Marvin and Kenneth, sisters-in-law Norma and Alice. She is survived by her children, Pamela (Dale) Smith, Nancy (Richard) Hillenbrand, Arthur (Christine) Steiber Jr.; grandchildren Katy Smith, Timothy (Angela) Hillenbrand, Ryan (Amanda) Smith, Scott Steiber, Krista (Tyler) Zenk, Sarah Hillenbrand, Sam Steiber; and great-grandchildren Riley Steiber, Noah and Levi Hillenbrand, Otto and Opal Zenk and Nora Smith. Visitation will be held at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home in Royal Oak on Thursday, August 25 from 3-7 pm. The funeral service will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak on Friday, August 26 at 11 am with visitation from 10 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak.
