Yvonne van Vianen

Yvonne Margaret van Vianen, of Shelby Township, passed away on August 14, 2022 at the age of 66. Born on April 27, 1956 in Royal Oak, Michigan, Yvonne was the daughter to Willem and Janna (ten Brink) Blom. Her parents, along with her brothers whom were 12 and 18 years older than her, immigrated to the United States of America from Holland approximately 7 years prior to Yvonne being born. She lived in the same home throughout her childhood and graduated from Dondero High School, located in Royal Oak, MI, in 1974. Yvonne was proud of her Dutch heritage and was able to travel to Holland in her younger years. In 1978, Yvonne married Pete van Vianen, who is also Dutch. They lived in Oak Park, MI prior to moving to Shelby Twp., MI in 1986. They brought 2 daughters and 1 son into the world. Though Pete and Yvonne later divorced, they remained close and continued to celebrate family birthdays and holidays together. Yvonne worked as a secretary for the Ferndale School District's Board of Education for 37 years. She retired from there in 2015. Yvonne liked to travel, often with family, but also with her close friends also known as "The Butt Sisters". While married, Yvonne hosted many family gatherings and was on several bowling leagues. It was a tradition to prepare certain Dutch foods to share and enjoy with family during the holidays. She enjoyed many types of music and attended a few concerts. She liked to dabble in gardening and even took a few flower planting classes. She participated in a handful of crafting classes, as well. Yvonne was fond of playing online games, and there, she made several friends in the process. Yvonne is the cherished Mother of Sarah, Kimberly, and Eric van Vianen; the beloved sister of Edgar (Kathryn) Blom; and the adored Aunt of Craig (Jacquelyn) Blom, Julie Blom, Kristine (Scott) Gryder, Matthew Blom, and Betsie (Ian) McKenna. Additionally, she is survived by the family cats, Twister, Mocha, Tina, George, and Garfield. She is also survived by her extended van Vianen family. Yvonne is the loving Sister-in law of Miriam Steinhelfer, Bill (Roxanne Moore) van Vianen, Alex (Valerie) van Vianen, Edwin (Shelly) van Vianen, and David van Vianen. Further, she is the dear Aunt of Chrissy (Christopher) McCall, Jessica (Rob) Korby, Robbie (Marissa) Steinhelfer, Billy (Kasie) van Vianen, Amanda (Tom) Forton, Michael (Jessica) Steinhelfer, Jennifer (Derek) Jones, Alicia (Adam) Miller, Matthew (Joshua) Steinhelfer, Amanda (Morgan) Woodmansee, Adam (Christian) van Vianen, Aerialle van Vianen, Abby van Vianen, Andrew van Vianen, Olivia van Vianen, and Daniel van Vianen. Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, Willem and Janny; her Brother, Hubert Blom; Sister-in-law, Roberta Blom; Father-in-law, Bernard van Vianen; Mother-in-law, Maria van Vianen; Brother-in-law, Robert Steinhelfer; and Brother-in-law, Max Richardson. Yvonne's family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, August 25, 2022 from 2:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, located at 8459 Hall Road, Utica, MI.
