In Loving Memory of M. Catherine "Cathy" McGrail. Cathy McGrail, a beloved figure in the City of Utica and elsewhere, passed away on September 5, 2023 after a life well lived. For twenty-nine (29) years, she faithfully served as the Utica City Clerk, starting in 1984 when Hall Road was a two-lane street without a median. She was dedicated to the City and making sure that all people's votes were always heard by conducting fair and just elections. She served as president of the Macomb County Clerk's Association, and often assisted other clerks in performing their duties. She worked hard. Cathy left an indelible mark on the community she treasured and adored, and where she chose to raise her family. Cathy was not just a dedicated public servant, she was also the devoted and steadfast leader of her family, the greatest joy in life. At young ages, she instilled the sense of public service into her children and served as an incredible role model to many. However, by far her pride and joy were her five grandsons. She held dear every moment spent with them, creating cherished memories that will be treasured for years to come. She was also a second "mom" to so many other kids in the neighborhood who will forever be grateful for her guidance and support. She prioritized family and made sure she attended every ball game and school function. She loved big. Her loss will leave a hole in many hearts, family and friends alike. Cathy was the source of quick wit and laughter for all who knew her. Her sense of humor brightened the darkest of days and brought smiles to countless faces. She could lighten any mood with a simple comment or joke. She laughed often. And she made others do the same. Her legacy of commitment, love and laughter will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her and will be remembered with deep gratitude and fondness. Cathy is predeceased by her parents, Frances and Cleo Boyle and her husband William J. McGrail, Jr.; her siblings, Patricia (Boyle) Higle, Charles, and Thomas (Corinne) Boyle. She is survived by her dearest brother John Francis "Jack" Boyle (Jean Machus). She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Carole (McGrail) Murray and Walt (Susan) McGrail. She is survived by her children Linda McGrail and Jim McGrail who will always be grateful for her unending support and love. Last but not least, she is survived by her five grandchildren who were the love of her life, Colin McGrail, Sean Belau, Andrew McGrail, Scott Belau, and Zachary Belau. Her family will receive friends on Sunday, September 10th from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road (3 blocks east of Van Dyke Avenue), Utica.
